Mission:

Smartsy provides whimsical hand-drawn greeting cards plus fun t-shirts for the important people in your life. Artists Jenny Domine and Shawna Joachim have been best friends since fourth grade and have stayed in touch over the years through their personalized greeting cards. Now they are sharing their love of low-tech communication with the world! Whether you're a sci-fi buff, dungeon master, bookworm, music fanatic or just love smart art, Smartsy has the most excellent designs for you.

About the Artists:

Shawna has been both an artist and a geek all her life. While her early years could more accurately be described as "nerdy and bookish", she later blossomed into...a larger version of pretty much just that. In any case, her interests expanded to include many of the sophisticated pastimes of the Geekdom: party member and guest Game Master of a Dungeons and Dragons campaign, Magic the Gathering tournament champion and director, LAN party survivor and board-game aficionado. Her university studies included the combination of Psychology and Computer Science. Shawna currently lives in Milwaukee with her husband. You can email her at shawna@smartsydesigns.com.

Jenny has been obsessed with Star Trek, Star Wars, and anything with the word "star" in it since her grade school days. Jenny's more mature and grown-up interests include: singing 1990s Disney songs while doing the dishes, discussing the philosophy of Douglas Adams with dinner guests and skipping in public. Jenny studied English and vocal performance at Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. She currently lives in Elmhurst, Ill. You can email her at jenny@smartsydesigns.com.

Products and Process:

Our tastes lean towards the free-handed sketchiness associated with pencil and ink line drawings, supplemented with bright coloration and whimsical subjects. When creating our art, we hand draw ideas and either scan them into a computer and manipulate them into the finished product (for t-shirts) or we just make the sketch into a greeting card.

We experiment with a variety of media including ink, acrylics, paper-art, crayons, colored pencils, markers, and found-objects. We use a professional heat transfer process to create our t-shirts

Everything we do is one-of-a-kind, and we save our customers the expense of fancy printing and processing costs. We do this because we love it, and we think you will too!

Future Plans:

We hope one day to have flying cars and moving-picture paper like in Harry Potter.
Until then, our goal is to develop our service and style into a manageable, fun, and useful entity. We are evolving towards the use of 100% recycled material and hope one day to be able to donate a percentage of our profits to charity.
